Home Alarm System Components

The history of humankind also involves the history of natural disasters, invasions, and theft. These human interactions and events necessitated the development and use of alarms to warn the populace of potential and actual dangers.

At the dawn of civilisation, bonfires were lit as warnings for impending natural disasters or enemy attacks. The first audible alarms were wind instruments and drums. Other early alarm systems included dogs and livestock such as geese to alert people to approaching strangers.

Although mechanical alarms are a fairly recent invention, the use of dogs pre-empted the basic principles of modern alarms with their use of sonic systems involving loud warning cries and growls.

Unlike modern alarms, dogs also have the capacity to attack and ‘mangle’ potential thieves. Early homeowners may have also placed items in front of their doors at night so that if someone attempted to enter, a noise would be heard.

Whistles and church bells have also been used for centuries to alert people to invasions, fires, emergencies and other public events, in addition to calling people to worship.

An English inventor named Tildesley invented the bell burglar alarm. This system used a link of bells placed so that when an intruder attempted to open a door it would create a noise, alerting home and business owners to the intended intrusion. Refer the history of alarms

Home Security Systems

According to statistics, a home burglary occurs every 3 minutes in Australia. And homes without security systems are 300% more likely to be victims of break-ins.

A professionally installed home security system is more likely to keep your loved ones and precious valuables safe. When purchasing an alarm system it is important that you acquire the best system and service that you can afford.

CCTV Camera Features

Major elements to consider when looking at home alarm systems are:

  • Alarm Installation
  • Alarm Monitoring
  • Access Control Systems
  • Closed Circuit TV (CCTV)
  • Security Cameras
  • Alarm Maintenance
  • Intrusion Alarms
  • Video Intercom Systems

WIFI Receiver and Transmitter

Alarm System Key Components

Motion Discovery Devices

This detects motion in and on your property and ensures any breaches are detected and an alarm set off.

External Sirens and Strobes

A siren and strobe light can be triggered to deter a break-in and keep the neighbourhood much safer.

Control Panels

For easy access and maximum security, you should install a control panel that allows you to have complete control over the whole system and zones within the home. This can be wired or wireless.

A control panel allows you to have a masterplan and the flexibility to change where you allow free access in the home and where to alarm other zones to defend against potential intruders.

WiFi Receivers and Transmitters

This alarm component allows for real time transmission of information.

Surveillance Cameras

Installing hidden and/or visible surveillance cameras (CCTV) inside and outside the house improves security by reducing the places where intruders may try to hide.

Backup Battery

Installing a battery backup is useful in case there is a power outage.

Alarm Remote Access

Remote mobile access to the alarm system also offers a security advantage over potential home invasions with Any Where/Any Time smart-phone access and alarm apps.

Contacts & Sensors

For extra security, anti-tamper window and door contacts and sensors can be fitted to set off alarms.

Panic Alert

Remote control panic buttons can also be installed as a part of a home security system.

Monitoring Packages

The best home alarm system providers will also offer monitoring packages where you receive a discreet phone call to alert you to home intrusion threats.

Alarm System Components – Brisbane

Ralph Weiss started Weiss Electrical in Annerley, Queensland in 1992 and has been servicing residential, commercial and industrial customers for over 25 years in the greater Brisbane area.

When Weiss Electrical expanded into Home and Business Security Systems, Hey Security was established.

The security services offered by Hey Security’s expert technicians include, “things the others can’t do”, such as installing homes and businesses with the latest flexible and innovative C-Bus and Genesis alarm, security and access systems. These cutting edge systems and technologies even enable the arming and disarming of homes, offices and business premises from a smart phone.

Data Cabling

If a data cable has been installed too close to power or has been kinked or damaged during the installation or pulled too hard and stretched the fine copper cabling inside, incorrectly wired at one or both ends, the data will not flow through it efficiently.

It’s like turning on a hose and then kinking the hose. Some water will still flow out, but not the expected amount. Data is the same and if you have a category 5 or 6 cable and expect to get 100Mbps or 1000Mbps (Megabits per second) data transfer speed through it, imagine your surprise when you only get 20Mbps or less.

Weiss Electrical can install the latest and most innovative data cable and wireless technologies to allow you to fully integrate and operate your home alarm system and home appliances remotely and within the house.

C-Bus

Home automation is available at the fingertips with C-Bus Control, through touch-screens, intelligent wall switches or via smart devices for control from remote locations. C-Bus can control lighting, air conditioning, multi-room audio systems, windows and blinds, home theatres, security systems, irrigation, keyless entry – and more.

C-Bus elements such as lighting, audiovisual systems and air conditioning can be programmed to work in unison at the touch of a button. C-Bus was designed, developed and manufactured by Clipsal, a company founded in Australia by Gerard Thomas in the 1920s and now known as Clipsal by Schneider Electric.

The Genesis

The Genesis system is a fully integrated Access Control-Building Automation and Security System. The use of The Genesis flexible Script Programming Engine has opened the panel to virtually unlimited building management functions. The Genesis is wholly designed, owned and manufactured in Australia and fully supported by the expert team who created it.

All the Bells and Whistles

Security and alarm systems have come a long way since the use of geese, dogs, church bells and whistles. The amazing technological advancements we have made in recent decades provide a means to more fully secure and protect our lives, homes and businesses.
